Luncheon Seminar - An Overview of Construction Contracts

This virtual presentation will provide an overview of issues relating to construction contracts that may be entered into by Strata Corporations. Procuring construction services of any size and scope exposes Strata Corporations and the project participants to a variety of risks.

 

This presentation will cover the following issues:

  1. The importance of having a written contract in place.
  2. Important contractual clauses that should be included in all construction contracts.
  3. Dealing with builders liens and builders lien holdback obligations.
  4. Deficiencies and extra work.
  5. Dealing with delays.
  6. Default and termination issues.
  7. Dispute resolution.

A Partner of Clyde & Co Canada LLP, Seema Lal has practiced extensively as a construction lawyer for over 20 years. Her clients in the construction industry benefit from Seema’s focus on the negotiation and preparation of construction contracts, procurement issues, builders liens and construction litigation (including claims for extras and delay).

Seema is a member of the editorial board and a contributor to the Continuing Legal Education Society’s British Columbia Builders Liens Practice Manual and is a frequent lecturer at various construction industry conferences and presentations as well as at in-house legal seminars for various contractors and consultants. She is also an adjunct lecturer at UBC for 4th year engineering students – Legal Aspects in Engineering Practice.
